Let's Read this summer!
An Interactive Program where Theatre makes reading fun!

What a better way to work on our reading skills than to bring them to the Stage!

Page to Stage is a reading program where theatre skills are used to enhance language and literacy skills.Working in small groups to read a play together, students are each assigned a character role and will read their parts with expression, meaning and enthusiasm.By the end of the week, students will take the story from the page and bring it to the stage.

Why Page to Stage?
Research shows four repeated readings sufficiently improve reading fluency. Most traditional texts cannot hold students' attention for up to four separate readings. Page to Stage is a popular form of "repeated guided oral reading” in a fun, interactive social setting and does not require memorization. With the added use of props, costumes, and simple staging, students will gain further meaning to words as they naturally enhance their overall language and literacy skills through theatre.

"Repeated and monitored oral reading most effectively improves reading fluency and overall reading achievement." -Put Reading First (Second Edition) - Fluency Instruction "Fluency is the crucial bridge between word recognition and comprehension. And repeated oral readings are a key method for building fluency in all students." -Teaching Children to Read
